It is with great pleasure to announce that a Patron of the Central Coast Division of Junior Rugby League Mr Brian Gee, has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday Award Honours.
Recognised for his service to Junior Rugby League and Surf Life Saving on the Central Coast.
I had not met Mr Gee personally before the late nineties when I was elected to the CCDJRL Management Committee although I had certainly learnt of his great deeds and tireless work within Junior Rugby League over many years.
By this time, he had already gained notoriety as a Life Member of the Saint Edwards JRLFC. This in itself, is a great distinction for anyone. He had previously represented the CCDJRL as a member of the Management Committee and as Assistant Secretary for the CCDJRL as well as being honoured as a Life Member of CCDJRL.
By this time Brian had been elected the role of Judiciary Chairman which he held until 2013. During his time with Judiciary Brian had modified procedures which became adopted by other regions of Junior Rugby League and some of which are still part of the Judicial process. The rapport he developed with Players and Coaches was outstanding for me especially after replacing him in that role. Since that time Mr Gee has held the position of CCDJRL Patron.
I do not exactly recall how many years Mr Gee has served Junior Rugby League. However, I do recall him receiving a Service to Junior Sport Award by the Central Coast Sports Federation where I recall him having given 37 years to the game. That was in 2012.
In closing, Brian has always been a valuable mentor to me personally and indeed, to all other members of CCDJRL and it’s Clubs.
Certainly, one of the most inspiring people I have encountered and more than worthy of the OAM he has received.
